Youth Council
The Northern Kentucky Youth Foundation Youth Council provides students with an opportunity to actively address youth related issues and needs in the community. The group coordinates youth activities in the community as well as provides insight to youth programs currently being offered by the Northern Kentucky Youth Foundation (NKYF).
The Youth Council is an advisory group to the NKYF Board of Directors and is comprised of middle and high school students (Grades 7-12) including public, private and home schooled students.
What Makes NKYF Youth Council Unique:
The NKYF Youth Council differs from typical youth groups/councils because of its built-in diversity. It strives to create a broader, multi-cultural cross section of students from Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties rather than one school, church or community. The anticipated result is to create community awareness and cultivate leadership among the youth of Northern Kentucky.
How Members Benefit from Participation:
Members of the Youth Council have the opportunity to benefit from their participation in numerous ways. Meetings are designed to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for council members to share knowledge regarding the concerns and opportunities facing themselves and their peers. In addition to an open forum, membership may be viewed as a “resume building” activity for possible inclusion in scholarship applications, while also meeting Community Service requirements that many schools require as part of their curriculum. Finally, involvement presents an early “networking” opportunity for members with like minded, similarly aged youth across multiple communities and school districts.
Membership Selection and Structure:
Youth Council members are selected through an application process. The leadership of the Council will be comprised of a Chair, Co-Chair and Secretary. The Chair position will hold a permanent position on the Northern Kentucky Youth Foundation Board of Directors and will have full voting rights. The co-chair will help assist the chair and will run council meetings when and if the Chair is unable to attend. The secretary will keep meeting minutes and will submit the Council’s minutes to the NKYF Board of Directors.
